About Us
Astrogear provides astronomy gear with a flare for education. We are the sole provider for items that support the projects of Astrosphere New Media Association such as Astronomy Cast and 365 Days of Astronomy. All proceeds support their efforts to increase science education on a global scale.
Astrosphere New Media Association is dedicated to promoting science and skeptical thought through internet-based technologies and distribution. They focus their efforts on the creation of technologies and content that enable better astronomy communications and greater astronomy content access for the public. These technologies can take many forms, and include (but are not limited to): blogs, podcasts, social networks, interactive data tools, and community content sites (such as wikis). Learn more at astrosphere.org.
Astrosphere’s most popular project to date is AstronomyCast, one of the most popular science podcasts on iTunes. Astronomy Cast takes a fact-based journey through the cosmos as it offers listeners weekly discussions on astronomical topics ranging from planets to cosmology. Hosted by Fraser Cain (Universe Today) and Dr. Pamela L. Gay (SIUE), this show brings the questions of an avid astronomy lover direct to an astronomer. Together Fraser and Pamela explore what is known and being discovered about the universe around us. Learn more at astronomycast.com or find shows on iTunes.
As we gain further support, we will begin offering more items for other projects. We appreciate your support and hope you will come to us for your future astronomy gear needs. Some of the other projects at Astrosphere that we support include:
The 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast is a community project to publish one podcast per day, 5 to 10 minutes in duration, for all 365 days of the year. The podcast episodes are written, recorded, and produced by people around the world who donate a few minutes to share their passion for astronomy with the world. This is a legacy project of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy. To get involved by sponsoring or submitting an episode please visit http://365DaysofAstronomy.org/.
Second Astronomy started as an IYA 2009 New Media Project. The Astronomy 2009 Island [slurl] took real world events into virtual realities, bringing the citizens of Second Life (TM) a way to experience projects such as From Earth to the Universe and The World at Night. Read all about upcoming additions to this project on the Second Astronomy Blog.
Astrosphere New Media is proud to support the legacy of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy. They host the archival websites from the US IYA.
